In response to industry demand for a true cast vehicle wrapping film, Mactac Distributor Products has enhanced its legacy IMAGin B-free GRUV bubble-free digital media with the launch of IMAGin B-free GRUV Cast.

Designed with today’s installer in mind, the new and improved IMAGin B-free GRUV Cast (GVC929BFD) replaces Mactac’s long-time customer favorite IMAGin B-free GRUV (GV929BFD). It features an upgraded cast facestock and adhesive platform – delivering the conformability and repositionability installers need for faster, more confident full or partial vehicle, fleet and marine wrapping applications.

“IMAGin B-free GRUV Cast was developed with today’s graphics installers in mind,” said Jason Yard, marketing director, Mactac Distributor Products. “The advanced features and characteristics offered by this cast film – such as its superior repositionability – give installers the confidence to wrap vehicles and other contoured surfaces faster than traditional calendered film options.”

IMAGin B-free GRUV Cast features Mactac’s proprietary omni-directional air-egress invisible adhesive pattern, which eliminates visible texture in the facestock for easier installation.

The facestock is a 2.0-mil high-gloss, soft white polyvinyl chloride (PVC) film that offers exceptional color reproduction. • The EFI Corrugated Packaging Suite and the EFI Publication Suite, the two newest, comprehensive Productivity Suites offering out-of-the-box, certified workflow systems for end-to-end production automation.
EFI's drupa exhibit addresses customers' key opportunity for future growth with accelerated, streamlined production workflows and valuable "Imaging of Things" opportunities focused on delivering greater customization and appeal in everything from signage and packaging to décor, apparel and industrial manufacturing.
"The focus EFI has placed in R&D to improve every part of the digital production chain results in a unique, breakthrough and innovative offering that we are very excited to present at the world's largest printing tradeshow," said Guy Gecht, EFI's CEO. "The breakthrough new platforms we are showing for the first time could be game changers for customers as the world moves from long runs to customized, on-demand manufacturing."
High-volume, low TCO with EFI's revolutionary single-pass corrugated press
The new Nozomi single-pass LED inkjet sheetfed direct-to-corrugated board press is EFI's biggest inkjet product development to date and brings the company's industry-leading production-speed, LED imaging to an important packaging market application. With this breakthrough offering, customers can execute the targeted strategies they need to address one of the biggest market opportunities in print's ongoing analog-to-digital transformation. When commercially available in 2017, the EFI Nozomi C18000 press also will offer a lower acquisition cost compared to digital inkjet corrugated presses currently on the market, while setting a new value benchmark with its strong overall combination of print speed, imaging quality and TCO benefits.
The 1.8m wide press can reach speeds up to 75 linear meters (246 linear feet) per minute, producing up to 9,000 80cmx60cm boards per hour using a double-lane printing feature. It prints up to seven colors, including white, at a 360x720 dots per inch resolution, and can handle materials up to 1.8x3 meters — and thicknesses up to triple-wall board — at full rated speeds. Its LED imaging capabilities provide brilliant, accurate color imaging on just about any board substrate, including traditional Kemi, model, bleach and kraft materials. Packaging produced with the press is fully industry certified for repulpability and recyclability.
Groundbreaking water-based EFI AquaEndure inkjet technology platform debuts
EFI's other new inkjet innovation featured at drupa, the AquaEndure technology, is a water-based inkjet platform engineered with the versatility to help customers expand their application offering and lower costs. The new technology platform brings water-based inks to the next level by offering more versatility. AquaEndure inks cure using much less heat, enabling a wider range of media, all while having strong color fidelity and a very eco-friendly profile. AquaEndure inks also have no odor, and the technology is designed to help customers achieve profitable growth in a range of market applications, starting with wall coverings, wraps and flexible signage in printers launching in 2017, with expanded media types and capabilities suitable for food-contact packaging following after that.
EFI's drupa stand includes additional technologies from the company's inkjet portfolio of VUTEk® superwide format printers, Reggiani textile printers, and EFI Wide Format entry- and mid-level production printers, including recently released roll-to-roll, hybrid and specialty printers that fuel customer success for signage and graphics, soft signage, thermoforming applications and more. The company's applications exhibit area also showcases additional inkjet capabilities with leading digital label, décor, apparel and ceramic decoration printing technologies from EFI.
Digital print innovation with the world's most advanced Fiery DFE
EFI is driving new competitive advantages in digital production printing with the introduction of the new Fiery XB DFE platform for ultra high-speed inkjet presses. The new platform will power the next generation of high-speed inkjet presses from Canon®, EFI, Landa and Xerox®. It can drive these presses to unparalleled speeds running the equivalent of roughly 173 cut-sheet toner engines printing simultaneously at 100 pages per minute.
The ultra-powerful, scalable DFE platform uses efficient Fiery software for blazing RIP performance and maximum use of hardware resources, driving everything from "RIP once, print many" books to versioned B1 packaging output at engine-rated speeds.
The new, cloud-based Fiery Navigator product launching at drupa gives customers more insight into their production data to optimize resource allocation, ensure compliance with operating procedures, and make smart equipment decisions. It is the first release in a new cloud platform for EFI technologies, and it improves users' capabilities by capturing key operational data points and displays production analytics for Fiery Driven printers in a comprehensive, customizable dashboard. As a result, users can identify opportunities to improve productivity, find potential cost reductions, and ensure the highest output quality in their digital print operations.
Fiery is the industry's leading digital print production workflow technology, and customers across the globe use Fiery DFEs to get maximum productivity and efficiency from their digital presses. Fiery products are also featured in EFI partner stands throughout drupa, including the Canon, Epson®, Landa, Konica Minolta®, OKI®, RICOH®, RISO and Xerox exhibits at Messe Düsseldorf.

EFI, SpeedPro Partnership Moves Ahead

Several of its franchisees are benefitting from installing the EFI H1625 LED printer, according to Denver-based large-format franchise company SpeedPro Imaging.
SpeedPro had signed a partnership agreement with Fremont, California-based EFI in 2015 to help its franchisees grow with the 65-inch printer. That was after an extensive testing and validation process conducted at SpeedPro headquarters.
The hybrid roll/flatbed, mid-level production inkjet printer is designed to maximize image quality at an affordable price, with four-color grayscale imaging at resolutions up to 1200x600 dpi and EFI’s white ink as a standard feature. According to the company, users benefit from extended media versatility on a wide range of flexible and rigid substrates up 2 inches thick with energy-saving, “cool cure” LED technology that gives users the ability to print on substrates that cannot withstand the heat of other drying or curing methods
SpeedPro Imaging’s franchise network of more than 120 studios currently operates in 31 states, with a Canadian affiliate that has locations in eight provinces. The SpeedPro-certified EFI LED printer has been available to the network since mid-2015, with six units installed to date and two more coming on line this quarter.
“We saw an opportunity in the marketplace because this hybrid printer is really attainable to our franchise partners at a good price point, and it opens a lot of doors with the types of applications we can deliver,” says Boris Katsnelson, CEO of SpeedPro Imaging. “We like the white ink on board, which is a strong feature, and the printer itself also is a really efficient machine. EFI has been a great partner for us as well.”

EFI Partners with Flexi for Cut Sever Solution in their Firey XF Rip

SA International (SAi) and EFI have announced the availability of the EFI Cut Server Option for Fiery proServer and Fiery XF digital front ends. This software option from SAi - a leading provider of software solutions for the professional sign making, wide-format digital printing and CAD/CAM for CNC machining industries - enables users of the Fiery workflow solutions to now enjoy a fully integrated end-to-end print-and-cut workflow.

As both companies have global customer bases, the provision of an easily integrated SAi-powered EFI Cut Server Option that enables Fiery customers to drive all the cutters in their business is a terrific advantage for them, says Sarit Tichon, Senior Vice President Worldwide Sales, SAi.

"Importantly, the Cut Server Option that SAi developed for EFI delivers convenience, reliability and precision for users regardless of whether they're driving cutters from smaller providers, or those from larger manufacturers", she adds.

Available now, the EFI Cut Server Option gives users the power and versatility of SAi's cut contour technology in a Fiery workflow to drive one or more of the 1300+ supported cutting devices from more than 80 suppliers, whether sheet or roll-fed.

By eliminating the need to work with different software for each cutter type, job management is easier and all printing and cutting processes can be seamlessly linked. Up to eight cutting engines can be driven simultaneously, accelerating production times and eliminating bottlenecks. The collaboration effectively enables more customers to enjoy an end-to-end print-and-cut environment with minimal touch points and maximum automation. Fewer manual steps also reduce the chance of human error and therefore waste.

The solution works by having the Fiery digital front end extract the cut paths from the job and deliver them to the cutter; meanwhile, without manual intervention, the digital front end also readies the job for preview and automatic printing.

Depending on the customer workflow or preference, cut path recognition can be automatic or manual so that operation may be unattended if desired, giving businesses further flexibility.

Speaking for EFI, Stefan Spiegel, General Manager, Fiery Wide Format, comments, With the continued introduction of new types of signage applications and materials, our customers are constantly looking to us to help them streamline their operations and meet customer deadlines. Fiery technology offers our customers unparalleled processing speed and quality, and now the new Cut Server Option brings them meaningful new benefits.

SAi boasts the largest library of cutter drivers on the market, and the popularity and ease-of-use of SAi's software were also important factors in EFI's decision making on a partner to collaborate with. It's therefore a successful combination of expertise from both EFI and SAi that enables us to provide this industry-leading solution, Spiegel concludes.

CADlink: UV printing version of Digital Factory RIP Software

CADlink Technology is pleased to announce that a UV printing version of Digital Factory RIP software is now available. The UV Edition includes a specific feature set that addresses the unique print production workflow requirements introduced by the advancement of UV digital print technology. Digital Factory UV Edition includes the following key features: Automated underbase features including support for .pdf and .eps workflows; Advanced color management including handling of white ink as well as clear coat ink application; Specialised production plug-ins directly within the RIP; Automated black background "knock-out" feature that literally blends black artwork components into black substrates, increasing print quality while reducing white ink consumption; Supports both bitmap as well as vector files; Print directly from any design application, or drag and drop files to Digital Factory queues without having to prepare underbase layers; Currently supports Mutoh, Mimaki and Roland printers as well a selection of third-party custom solution provider printers. “UV digital printing has introduced new complexities to job preparation and production”, states David Evans, CADlink Director of Research and Development, “the common use of white as well as clear inks within day to day production workflows requires that print files are prepared in such a manner that correctly and efficiently address how, when and where white or clear inks are applied to a particular job. Digital Factory UV Edition addresses these issues and simplifies the UV print production workflow”.
